The open work stitch is reminiscent of iron work on old garden gates, not quite obscuring what lies beyond. The cuffs are held up with buttons. Solid and hand-dyed ribbon, boucle and other textured yarns produce great results, so don't limit your choices to smooth yarns.
For this stitch, a yarn which usually measures four stitches per inch will produce 3.5 stitches per inch.
